UNDECIDED

The manager of Napoli, Walter Mazzarri, has admitted that he hasn’t yet decided whether he will stay at the club after this season.

Napoli has performed pretty well in Serie A this season under the guidance of Mazzarri. They are currently at the second position in the points table behind Juventus with 75 points in 36 matches.

There have been some reports in the last few weeks that Mazzarri’s future at the club is not certain and now, the manager himself has also confirmed that.

When asked whether he will stay at the club, Mazzarri said, “I am yet to decide about it. This is not in my mind at the moment. The season is in progress and you can’t think about these things at this point of time.”

“When the season gets over, I will sit and think with calm head about my future. Right now, I am the manager of Napoli and I want the team to perform well in the last couple of games. It’s very important to end the season strongly.”

There also have been speculations that AS Roma is interested in Mazzarri. Currently, Aurelio Andreazzoli is in charge of Roma, but, he is only an interim manager. He was appointed in the second half of the season after the sacking of Zdenek Zeman.

It’s almost certain that the Giallorossi will appoint a new boss in the next season and Mazzarri is the one whom they are interested in.

When asked about that, Mazzarri said, “Honestly speaking, I don’t have any idea about that. They haven’t approached my agent till now. I don’t know how you guys know about their interest in me.”

Mazzarri had been appointed as the Napoli boss on the place of Roberto Donadoni in October 2009.

NOT WORRIED

Despite coming extremely close to taking the lead in the Italian Serie A table, the Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri has said that his team is certainly not worried about the presence of Juventus. Juventus have been in the top Italian team for the last year and half. Hence, there are currently present at the top of the table, but Napoli are giving them a real fight to the title. After slipping down the table in the middle of the campaign, Napoli have once again come back into the mix of the title race due to a mixture of good form and bad results for the opposition.

Napoli will be taking on Catania during the weekend, and there has been a suggestion that the team will be having one eye on the results from Juventus. Instead, Mazzarri has promised that Catania will be the sole attention for the team this weekend. He has pointed out to the recent good form of Catania as the main reason for this being a difficult match. Catania come into the encounter on the back of the three successive victories. The manager has said that he is extremely pleased with the arrivals at the club so far in January.

“We are not thinking about Juventus. Rather, we will need to be combative against one of the true revelations of the season that can count on an incisive attack and has won three matches in a row. It will be a very difficult match and we will need all the help we can get from the supporters. We let go some players who were not receiving the playing time they needed and were at risk of regressing and players arrived that will add depth in light of competing in both the league and in Europe,” said Mazzarri.

BALOTELLI MIGHT WORK

The Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri has said that he would be open to the possibility of working with the Italian international Mario Balotelli, who has been linked with a move from Manchester city in the summer. The 22-year-old Italian has caused a lot of trouble at the Premier league champions, while his form has also not been this season. He has managed to score just one goal in all competitions, which have intensified rumours of an impending departure from the Etihad stadium. The striker was signed from the Italian club Inter Milan for £ 24 million back in 2010.

Mazzarri has revealed that he would like to see Edinson Cavani paired alongside Mario Balotelli at Napoli. The Uruguay striker is regarded one of the best in the world and he has been linked with several clubs in Europe. Recently, Mazzarri came out in praise of the 25-year-old after he helped the team record a great 4-1 win over Roma during the weekend. This was only the second victory for the club in the last five matches, but it has helped them move into the third position due to the other results going their way. They are only two points behind their arch rivals Lazio in the table.

“I’ve never had the opportunity to meet Balotelli in person. Only those who have had him in their squad know what problems he could cause, but I have experience and I’d find coaching him stimulating. Cavani was stunning. He became a top player at Napoli. Roma are on a par with Juventus, so we put in a great performance tonight,” said Mazzarri after the 4-1 win in which Edinson Cavani scored a wonderful hat-trick. Even though the title may be out of reach, Mazzarri still believes in the prospect of beating Juventus to the Italian Serie A title.

NAPOLI FOCUS

There have been a number of anti-Juve suggestions about the second placed team in the Italian Serie A – Napoli. However, the manager Walter Mazzarri has said that he is not concentrating on such matters and he is only focused on results on the pitch. Napoli will be facing bottom of the table team Pescara this weekend knowing that they can get all three points from this encounter to keep in touch with Juventus. Napoli are seen as the only title challenger for Juventus this season, and they have lived up to the reputation by being just two points behind the Italian champions in the table so far this season.

They come into the match against Pescara on the back of an excellent run of form that has seen them go undefeated in suffering the 1-0 defeat at the hands of Atalanta at the start of November. Napoli have also dropped just four points in the league since then, while Juventus have already suffered two defeats in the league. This has helped them keep in touch with one of the biggest teams in Italy. Mazzarri has also rejected suggestions that the match against Pescara will be easy for Napoli. He has said that anything can happen in the match.

Mazzarri also praised the Napoli player Lorenzo Insigne, who was instrumental in helping Pescara get promoted to the Italian Serie A. TI do not care too much about what others say about us, I just want to get the best out of my players and then see where we are at the end of the season. I am pleased that the players respect me, I have always been relaxed around them. They know how hard tomorrow’s game will be, as we know anything could happen,” said Mazzarri ahead of the match with Pescara.
